MEDIA RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sudbury, November 6, 2012 – BESTECH is proud to announce that the company was awarded a 2012 Employer Stellar Award today at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Sudbury from the Education Coordinating Team of Workforce Planning for Sudbury and Manitoulin. Nominated by the Employment Centre at College Boreal, the Employer Stellar Award recognizes exemplary employers for their efforts with students in the Sudbury and Manitoulin areas.
Since the last decade, the Stellar Awards are hosted bi-annually by the Education Coordinating Team of Workforce Planning for Sudbury and Manitoulin in order to bridge the partnership between business/industry (as potential employers) and schools/students to provide opportunities that develop our future workforce. Area school boards and local colleges each nominate one organization or individual that has provided exemplary experiential learning opportunities for students through co-op placements and apprenticeships.
BESTECH’s nomination is likely a result of its 13 student co-op placements this summer, in addition to a recent commitment from the firm to contribute $25,000 over the next five years to College Boreal’s Major Capital Campaign. Co-op placements were given to students from Laurentian University, University of Guelph, Michigan State University, College Boreal, Cambrian College and Lockerby Composite School. The funding commitment includes a license for College Boreal to use BESTECH’s software products, valued at $200,000, in order to apply as a training tool for students and therefore, integrate these products into the course curriculum. BESTECH will also provide two to five student placements per year at BESTECH to College Boreal students over the next five years, assuming the economic conditions permit the company to do so.
To demonstrate the College’s appreciation, BESTECH’s logo will be imbedded in the floor tile near the new amphitheater. College Boreal has also offered its team of Research & Development professionals to work with BESTECH to expand the firm’s technologies and to apply eligible research funds for continuous study and further development of BESTECH products. Furthermore, College Boreal provided BESTECH with access to the Sudbury campus’ Automation Lab in order to offer first-class equipment and an exceptional training facility to BESTECH employees.
“We are thrilled to be honoured as a community employer and we will continue to look to our local educational institutions to complement our current team of professionals”, said Marc Boudreau, Co-CEO of BESTECH. “The talent that comes from our local schools is incredible! BESTECH has hired so many brilliant individuals which we found right in our own backyard. Our partnerships with the various colleges and universities will allow us to maintain access to top students who are expertly trained, while the students will be able to further expand their knowledge by gaining work experience in their field of study.”
