Structural Engineering Supervisor

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a motivated, efficient and engaged Structural Engineering team. Responsibilities include: assigning resources and prioritizing activities to achieve project goals and timelines; coaching and mentoring employees to ensure maximum performance; performing one-on-one evaluations with staff and offering constructive feedback and career development opportunities; assist with developing division-specific processes and procedures; and managing projects as needed. 

Primary Job Duties:

  • Maintain a safe operating environment.
  • Ensure projects meet the requirements of industry standards and regulations and work within established company/industry policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to services team conferring with customers, consultants, contractors or suppliers and ensure project deliverables are carried out on-time, on-spec, and on-budget.
  • Participate in short-term planning pertaining to budget requirements, staff selection and projects to be undertaken.
  • Responsible for investigations and reports such as cost estimates and technical studies.
  • Analyze reports on project status provided by project managers, providing feedback and guidance as required.
  • Recommend changes or opportunities to operating costs and report deviations from planned activities.
  • Work with the divisional manager to ensure the profitability of the division and inform management of the risks, opportunities and challenges faced as related to projects.
  • Complete tender documents, feasibility documents, and other documentation as required, and verify accuracy of records completed by team members.
  • Plan, facilitate, and conduct meetings, presentations, and interviews with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform design duties as required on projects.
  • Comfortable working at client sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Requirements & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a P. Eng. designation.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of leadership and project management experience in an engineering firm.
  • Extensive knowledge of all applicable codes.
  • Must have strong project management skills and experience.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and client relationship management experience.
  • Extensive computer knowledge in industry applications, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Must have strong numerical ability and reasoning skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with exceptional report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, conflict resolution, decision-making and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of mining related processes a definite asset.

Financial Controller

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the finance group, with emphasis on general accounting processes, and providing budget support through the implementation of financial controls and the coordination of internal/external reporting systems.   • Responsible for completing some administrative tasks, particularly where sensitive information is involved.

Essential Job Requirements & Experience:

  • University Degree in Commerce, Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Professional accreditation from CICA (CPA, CMA, CGA) is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian accounting legislation and guidelines.
  • Minimum (7) years of direct accounting experience; preferably in project-based entities.
  • Experience with ERP systems, such as MS Dynamics AX is preferred.
  • Experience in organizations operating in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a “hands on” approach to managing the accounting function.

Automation Engineer, P.Eng.

The Automation Engineer is responsible for the execution of the detailed engineering design to prepare design criteria, engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports and technical compliance, code compliance, checks and balances, in accordance with the project procedures. IT/Network Administrator

The IT/Network Administrator’s role is to ensure the stable operation of the networks, computer systems and peripherals, including installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and optimization, as well as provide technical assistance, direction and training across various system environments.

We are seeking a motivated self-starter, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). The successful candidate is customer service-oriented with the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.

The ideal candidate will be professional and well-organized with the ability to solve technical issues quickly and independently. The IT/Network Administrator is expected to provide these services with a high-level of technical competency and independence.

This position is also part of an on-call rotation. During the on-call period, the individual is expected to respond to requests from clients and urgent server alerts in a timely manner.

Primary duties:

  • Provide Service Desk support to users via phone, email, or in-person and, perform post-resolution follow-ups to help desk requests.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Monitors all backups, maintaining data on-site and off-site as determined by BESTECH and client requirements, and perform regular tests.
  • Amend current policies and develop new policies for the IT function as required.
  • Develop and adhere to IT standards, and standard operating procedures to maintain BESTECH’s IT and client compliance requirements.
  • Manage IT projects by understanding project objectives and scope, following project milestones, sharing technical expertise, and providing recommendations.
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including services packs, patches, firmware, hot fixes and security configurations.
  • Manage configuration and installations to various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewall, VPN, QoS).
  • Ensure network connectivity of all systems including workstations, servers, printers, and other devices.
  • Administer all network equipment, hardware, and software upgrades; escalate issues as required; and work with high-level managers to identify effective solutions and develop long-term IT strategies.
  • Provide on-call support, as required; comfortable working at client sites; provide technical consulting and advice to clients as requested.
  • Thoroughly test new applications and develop employee training.

As with any position with BESTECH, the IT/Network Administrator is responsible for adhering to company policies and procedures, maintaining a safe operating environment, and may also have other duties assigned as required.

Essential Job Requirements & Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in related IT program.
  • Minimum (5) years of hands-on experience with network & system capacity planning, security principles, and general management best practices in a medium to large enterprise environment.
  • Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of network and server operating systems, including Cisco IOS, Active Directory, Windows Server & VMWare.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including VOIP, LAN, WAN and WLAN.
  • Creativity/Innovation: Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.
  • Ability to understand complex business processes and communicate them effectively to others.
  • Knowledge of various software – including Microsoft Office, Visio, SQL, Office 365, Dynamics 365, Autodesk, Bentley, Skype for Business, Exchange.

  • Strong numerical ability and reasoning skills.
  • Must have strong project management skills.
  • Able to ensure that all programs and controls maintain a safe operating environment.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts and other visual aids.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with exceptional report writing skills.
  • Effectively liaise with engineers, designers and specialist to ensure client needs are met.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment to meet tight deadlines.
  • Valid Driver’s License with access to a personal vehicle.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Fluent in English (written and oral).
