Title Instrumentation Support Technician

Instrumentation Support Technician

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing all aspects of the daily operation and maintenance of the Air Quality Monitoring (AQM) Network, particulate monitoring, ventilation control system and support other service level agreements with BESTECH products. This includes collecting and reviewing data, performing monthly calibration activities for all stations, preparing detailed reports for environmental reporting partner, participating in quarterly system audits with the Ministry of Environment as well as installations, troubleshooting and repairs and maintenance to the network and instruments.

Skills and Educational Requirements

  • Minimum 2 year College Diploma in electronics or instrumentation or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with a technical firm.
  • Can demonstrate a high level of initiative, self-confidence and independence
  • Well-developed organizational, interpersonal and planning skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, maintain parts inventory, and schedule tasks effectively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and commissioning skills.
  • Experience in electronics and software installation and development.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • Physically capable of lifting and transporting calibration equipment (approx. 40 lbs.)

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Operate, modify, inspect, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair all air quality monitoring, particulate monitoring, data loggers and meteorological monitoring instrumentation.
  • Provide technical expertise and information to clients on all air monitoring issues, maintaining good relations with all clients.
  • Maintain a secondary calibration standard for calibration purposes.
  • Conduct data editing and produce monthly reports.
  • Consult manufacturer’s manuals, circuit diagrams to determine tests and maintenance procedures for instruments used for measuring and controlling flow, level, pressure, temperature, chemical composition and other variables in manufacturing and processing.
  • Inspect and test operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments.
  • Repair and adjust system components such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers (PLC), or remove and replace defective parts.
  • Calibrate components and instruments according to manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance work and complete test and maintenance reports.
  • Install control and measurement instruments on existing and new plant equipment and processes.
  • Participate in quarterly ministry audits.
  • Participate in the delivery and installation of other environmental monitoring programs and BESTECH related products.
  • Must be available for on-call support after hours and weekends (rotating fixed schedule)
  • Consult in the preparation of proposals and estimates for clients.
  • Ability to work in u/g mines and surface plants including bucket lifts (minimal)
  • Source, purchase and receive project related supplies.
  • Extensive short term domestic and international travel may be required.
