Electrical Engineer (W.G. Spencer Engineering Division)

The Position
W.G. Spencer Engineering, BESTECH’s Mine Hoist Division, is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Engineer. This role will be a key player of a team of problem-solving engineers to maintain and support industry-leading products and systems in the areas of mine hoist application and specialty equipment. Key Job Functions
- Automation, networks and HMI screen integration into control systems;
- Design specification, tendering and onsite supervision for final installation and commissioning;
- Direct involvement in project management, PLC control, machine design, failure analysis, troubleshooting and commissioning of new installations;
- Provide technical guidance for installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems;
- Develop engineering project schedules, budgetary estimates, cost, and scheduling reports;
- Lead or participate in multi-discipline teams to solve problems (complex troubleshooting, task analysis meetings, technical operability evaluations, engineering evaluations, root cause investigations, internal and external audits, etc.);
- Lead or participate in development or enhancement to design management and engineering change control programs and procedures;
- Manage and control projects in an economical and timely manner ensuring adherence to quality control requirements;
- Act as liaison between W.G. Spencer Engineering personnel, technical groups, and outside contractors;
- Ensure compliance with site standards and all government and corporate regulations in the area of safety, health, and environment for all capital projects
Key Qualifications
- Completion of University degree in Electrical Engineering;
- 3-5 years experience as an Electrical Engineer;
- Experience with PLC automation and application of same and related networks;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong presentation and analytical skills;
- Effective planning, project management, and problem-solving skills;
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under short deadlines;
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract.
Additional Assets
- PMP
- Registered as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer in Canada (P.Eng)
- Drive systems knowledge of DC and/or VFD for electric motors
- Experience within the mining industry would be considered an asset
