Alamos Gold

Alamos Gold Inc.'s Island Gold mine required expansion due to successful exploration activities. This expansion necessitated an upgrade of their backfill processes to pastefill, along with constructing an upgraded or new mill and paste plant.
BESTECH provided comprehensive engineering services for the new pastefill plant at the Island Gold mine site during the basic engineering phase.
SCOPE
The engineering team developed and confirmed the final layout of the paste plant, along with the detailed specifications and costs of the equipment and infrastructure. The project’s scope included designing the overall site plan, a 2.5 km buried pipeline to the plant, and an 1100 m² pre-engineered building to house the process equipment. This building was designed to support a 20-ton overhead crane and included multi-level interior platforms for easy access to equipment.
Additionally, BESTECH designed all foundational elements, secondary containment areas, access platforms, stairs, and the power system. The engineering efforts also covered the plant’s comprehensive electrical systems, including transformers, medium and low voltage distribution, and a detailed control and instrumentation system.
OUTCOME
Completing the basic engineering phase equipped Alamos Gold with all necessary technical details and cost estimates to proceed confidently into the detailed design phase. This foundational work ensures that the expansion and upgrades at the Island Gold mine are based on solid engineering principles and detailed planning, setting the stage for successful construction and operation enhancements.
