Cameco

Pipe Slinging Device
2013
Mechanical

Cameco engaged BESTECH to design and implement a pipe sling device for transporting pipe bundles to underground sites at their Cigar Lake mine shaft.

The project required a design that could handle 8–12-inch diameter pipe bundles, encompassing all necessary mechanical and structural components.

SCOPE

The project involved comprehensive mechanical and structural engineering to ensure the device was robust and functional for the mining environment. BESTECH managed the entire process from design to fabrication, closely monitoring quality assurance to meet stringent safety and operational standards. The firm also developed a detailed equipment operation manual, which was critical for ensuring safe and effective use of the pipe sling in underground operations.

OUTCOME

The successful design and fabrication of the pipe sling device enabled efficient and safe transport of large pipe bundles to the underground locations at Cameco’s Cigar Lake site. The completion of this project not only facilitated the logistical operations but also enhanced the overall efficiency of material handling at the mine. The provision of an operation manual ensured that the site personnel could operate the device safely and maintain its functionality over time, aligning with Cameco’s operational and safety protocols.
