Energy Balance Study & Electric Vehicle Support
2019
Electrical & Instrumentation

BESTECH provided comprehensive guidance for Codelco as they worked to implement Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) at the El Teniente underground mines.

Key aspects of the project included calculating the daily energy balance of vehicles, establishing a BEV operating philosophy, and determining the infrastructure necessary to support BEVs.

SCOPE

BESTECH evaluated chargers’ capital and operating costs and supporting infrastructure. The team worked on identifying potential gaps and providing general indications to optimize the mine layout for BEV usage. Additionally, BESTECH assisted in acquiring pricing information for BEVs and offered general recommendations for the next steps in the implementation process.

OUTCOME

The project resulted in a detailed and actionable plan that provided Codelco with the necessary information to lead BEV efforts with their internal personnel. BESTECH’s comprehensive guidance enabled decision-makers at Codelco to assess all aspects of BEV implementation, from costs and infrastructure needs to operational strategies and layout optimization. This strategic approach ensured that the mine was well-prepared for a seamless transition to using BEVs, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
