Glencore Sudbury INO

Glencore sought preliminary and detailed engineering support while upgrading the control system for the compressors at their smelter.
BESTECH was engaged to improve the existing compressors in the powerhouse and the blower room by incorporating new Ingersoll-Rand controllers.
SCOPE
BESTECH implemented a new programmable logic controller (PLC) that facilitated the monitoring and control of the compressor on/off sequences to achieve a more efficient control system. This new PLC was connected to the smelter’s local area network (LAN) and was equipped with a human-machine interface (HMI) screen, enabling operators to easily identify and respond to specific alarms. Furthermore, the project streamlined the network by integrating the existing compressor controllers into this new system.
OUTCOME
The engineering solutions provided by BESTECH resulted in enhanced functionality and reliability of the compressed air systems at the smelter. The new controllers and PLCs not only improved the air supply but also reduced the complexity of system management, allowing for more straightforward operation and maintenance.
