Glencore Sudbury INO

Electrical & Automation Engineering
2007
Automation

This project required a multidisciplinary approach with a team of experts from various backgrounds to ensure the system met design objectives and adhered to Glencore’s standards.

BESTECH provided electrical design, automation, and programming to enhance operational efficiency and safety at the plant.

SCOPE

The project included critical components for the calciner plant’s functionality and safety. Key features included a lighting and grounding system, HVAC capabilities for climate control, and a building cabling management system. The infrastructure also comprised a networking setup and a video system for monitoring operations.

The automation system featured multiple I/O drops for precise control over processes. Integration of a Foxboro Distributed Control System (DCS) ensured reliability and smooth operation. Key processes included the material receiving system, rotary kiln, drum cooler, afterburner, spray cooler, and baghouse systems for effective material handling and processing.

OUTCOME

The completion of the calciner plant project enhanced operational capabilities for processing recycled materials. It resulted in a functional system with over 420 instruments and a fire protection system, improving safety and efficiency in operations.
