Glencore Sudbury INO

Glencore Sudbury INO initiated the Fraser Morgan Project to extend the life of Fraser Mine by accessing the adjacent Fraser Morgan deposit.
This expansion required new underground infrastructure to increase mine capacity and improve operational efficiency. To ensure success, Glencore engaged BESTECH for advanced automation and control solutions tailored to the site’s systems.
SCOPE
BESTECH designed, programmed, integrated, and commissioned the control systems for the mine’s essential infrastructure, including dewatering, ventilation, process water, compressed air, backfill distribution, and material handling. The automation platform used Schneider Electric’s programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and Wonderware human-machine interface (HMI) software, providing a user-friendly interface and robust control performance.
The project scope included PLC programming for new infrastructure systems, HMI development for real-time monitoring and control, integration of vendor-supplied equipment, and the commissioning of all instrumentation and process equipment. Startup support was provided for a smooth transition to operational use.
OUTCOME
The successful implementation of the automation and control systems enabled the Fraser Morgan Mine to operate efficiently and safely, meeting Glencore’s production targets while reducing operational risk. Centralized visibility and control over multiple infrastructure systems allowed the operations team to manage mine services effectively. BESTECH’s work enhanced the reliability and maintainability of the mine’s systems, supporting Glencore’s long-term investment in modernized and sustainable mining infrastructure.
