New Mining Zone Detailed Design & Engineering
2015
Automation

Vale engaged BESTECH to provide full multi-disciplinary detailed engineering for two new mining zones at Fraser Mine.

The mandate covered every major infrastructure and services system required to bring the zones into production and to establish a template for future sustaining levels.

SCOPE

BESTECH designed and integrated underground and surface ventilation networks, backfill distribution, and comprehensive water-management systems encompassing mine dewatering, solids handling, process water and compressed-air reticulation. Ore- and waste-handling chutes were engineered in tandem with critical zone infrastructure, including refuge stations, fuel bays and latrines.

The team delivered complete electrical and communications packages: power distribution, leaky-feeder and fibre networks, Microseismic monitoring, PLC- and HMI-based control, VOIP and analogue telephony, central blasting circuits and ION power metering. Throughout construction, BESTECH coordinated planning, site support and staged commissioning, ensuring each system came online safely and in the proper sequence.

OUTCOME

The integrated package enabled Vale to launch the new zones on schedule while laying a robust foundation for subsequent mine expansion. Commissioning was completed systematically, followed by precise as-built documentation that captured every installation detail for future reference. The result is a cohesive, modern infrastructure that delivers reliable services, streamlined operations and long-term sustainability for Fraser Mine’s ongoing development.
