Glencore Sudbury INO

Wireless Upgrade & Security Enhancements
2011
Automation

Glencore Sudbury INO aimed to enhance wireless connectivity at its mine sites and surface facilities to meet growing operational demands.

BESTECH was engaged to design and implement a wireless infrastructure that provides high bandwidth, improved coverage, and enhanced security for various mining applications.

SCOPE

The network backbone was replaced to improve bandwidth availability. BESTECH selected Siemens controllers and Enterasys wireless access points for the new architecture. To ensure data integrity and secure access, Virtual LANs (VLANs) were implemented, segmenting traffic for applications like personnel tracking, remote rig control, and blasting coordination.

BESTECH managed the project, oversaw the technical strategy, coordinated installation with a sub-consultant, and ensured system compatibility with operational requirements.

OUTCOME

The upgraded wireless network allows Glencore to support a wider range of industrial applications while maintaining security and reliability. Visitors can access the internet and email, while internal operations benefit from improved connectivity and communication. The expanded network capacity and scalable design enable Glencore’s operations to adopt new technologies easily, enhancing efficiency and digital resilience.
