Pump Station & Thickening Plant Design
2018
Automation

A large industrial maintenance firm was tasked with the design, supply, and installation of a thickening plant at Kirkland Lake Gold’s Macassa Mine operations, incorporating both a pump station and the thickening plant itself.

The maintenance firm contracted BESTECH to handle the facilities’ comprehensive electrical and instrumentation design.

SCOPE

BESTECH’s responsibilities encompassed a wide range of detailed engineering tasks. The team managed the integration of 13.8kV power from an existing substation and communication fibre from the existing site network into the new facilities.

The design included 600V and 120V/240V power distribution within the complex and installation of network distribution systems, cable trays, and cable routing. Further responsibilities included programming and commissioning aspects of the project.

OUTCOME

By overseeing the project from detailed engineering through to start-up, BESTECH ensured a smooth transition and handover to Kirkland Lake Gold’s operational team. The successful implementation of the thickening plant significantly enhanced the mine’s processing capabilities, improving efficiency and reliability in the thickening operations.
