Vale Canada Limited

Vale’s Nickel Refinery Converter (NRC) baghouse system required upgrades to improve air quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
A local exhaust ventilation system was needed to better manage particulate emissions. BESTECH was engaged to enhance the facility’s automation and control systems by updating four functional descriptions related to baghouse operations.
SCOPE
BESTECH automated the replacement of four baghouse systems by integrating them with updated programmable logic controller (PLC) and distributed control system (DCS) programming. This work ensured the efficient and reliable operation of the new ventilation equipment within the overall process control system.
The updated functional descriptions outlined the operations and control logic for the safe, effective functioning of the new systems. The installation included modern particulate capture technology that met Vale’s environmental goals.
OUTCOME
The new local exhaust ventilation system and enhanced control automation significantly improved air quality inside the NRC plant and in the surrounding environment. These upgrades reduced worker exposure to airborne contaminants and supported Vale’s compliance with regulatory emissions standards. BESTECH’s engineering and commissioning support ensured smooth operation of the ventilation system and automated controls, demonstrating the company’s expertise in environmental and process systems integration.
