Ladderway Replacement
2022
Structural & Civil

The project to replace deteriorated ladderways at Creighton Mine was essential for safety and operational efficiency.

These ladderways were critical to the mine’s infrastructure and required complete replacement. BESTECH was tasked with redesigning approximately 1400 feet of ladderways to ensure safe access to sublevels from the raise.

SCOPE

The project included designing the ladders, mid-raise, and sublevel access platforms, along with their supports. A key aspect of this design was adopting modular concepts for easier installation, which was expected to streamline the process and reduce labor efforts.

The impact of the modular design was significant. It simplified installation and lowered construction costs due to decreased labor requirements compared to traditional methods. Replacing the platforms with the original designs would have resulted in higher costs and labor efforts.

OUTCOME

This project improved the safety and functionality of the mine’s ladderways. The new designs provided safer, more reliable access to sublevels, enhancing operational efficiency. The project also highlighted the value of innovative design in mining operations, where safety and cost-effectiveness are vital.
