For the Coleman Mine's power and ventilation systems, there was uncertainty about whether the existing power supply could support the expansion to Lower 170.
The project encompassed two phases: a Front-End Loading (FEL) 1 and FEL-2 Load Flow Study, which aimed to ascertain the adequacy of the current power infrastructure to meet future demands of the mine’s expansion.
SCOPE
The proposed solution involved a comprehensive review of the existing power demand and infrastructure at Coleman Mine. The process was designed to work in tandem with the mine’s design team to assess new power requirements and evaluate options to ensure a successful extension of the mining operations.
OUTCOME
Using EasyPower software, the project team conducted an extensive analysis that included multiple iterations of load flow studies. These studies were integrated into broader trade-off analyses concerning other aspects of the mine’s design. The team assessed various scenarios to provide a thorough understanding of the power system’s capabilities and limitations in relation to the proposed mine expansion.
