At the Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery, the pellet decomposers' control systems needed modernization
BESTECH was tasked with updating these systems, which included the comprehensive removal of old controls and the integration of advanced technologies.
SCOPE
BESTECH’s approach involved replacing the existing control systems with a new programmable logic controller designed explicitly for pellet decomposers. The upgrade included the installation of new control panels, each equipped with remote input/ output capabilities and human-machine interface screens. Additionally, starters were updated with intelligent overloads to improve process efficiency and safety.
BESTECH also designed a new network architecture to connect all panels and starters, ensuring robust communication and control across the system. The team meticulously developed and documented the functional descriptions to guide the operation and troubleshooting of the new system.
OUTCOME
By consolidating the control panels and integrating intelligent technologies, BESTECH enhanced the decomposers’ operational capabilities, allowing for more precise control and monitoring. The new network design ensures seamless communication between components, facilitating easier maintenance and upgrades in the future.
