As part of a planned expansion into the South End Development (SED) zone of the T1 Mine, Vale Canada Limited required additional electrical infrastructure to supply power from the surface substation to the newly developed area.
The challenge was to deliver this upgrade efficiently while maximizing the reuse of existing infrastructure to reduce cost and complexity.
SCOPE
To support the mine expansion, BESTECH designed and implemented a new isolation transformer installation, raise cables, and a fully integrated underground power distribution system. The engineering approach emphasized strategic reuse of existing infrastructure to improve project efficiency and reduce capital expenditure. The solution was developed to ensure reliability, scalability, and safe power delivery to the SED zone.
OUTCOME
The project enables Vale to effectively power the new ore zone in the South End Development. This infrastructure expansion is crucial to supporting the continued growth of the T1 Mine and ensuring that future development activities proceed uninterrupted.
