The Clarabelle Mill pressure oxidation (PO) column dump valve automation project aimed to improve efficiency and control within the PO cleaner columns.
BESTECH managed the installation of three new dump/drain valves for each PO cleaner column, along with updates to the existing dump valve control systems.
SCOPE
BESTECH integrated the new dump valves into the existing process control infrastructure, incorporating them into the FLEX I/O system and control panels. The project included updating the programming of the PO circuit to accommodate the new hardware and control strategy. This integration was planned to ensure operation and minimal disruption to ongoing mill activities. The team provided construction assistance to facilitate the installation and integration of the new systems.
OUTCOME
Automating the dump valves significantly improved control and efficiency of the pressure oxidation process at Clarabelle Mill. The updated control system and new valves enhanced operational flexibility, allowing for precise management of chemical processes within the PO cleaner columns. This project improved the reliability of operations and contributed to the mill’s overall productivity and safety, aligning with the plant’s goals for technological advancement and operational excellence.
