Your Role as Overhead Systems Designer

Reporting to the Manager of Structural Engineering Services, as an Overhead Systems Designer, you will be involved in the creation of comprehensive drawing packages for overhead distribution systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in drafting techniques and familiarity with industry-standard drafting software. You will work closely with our engineering team to translate design concepts into detailed drawings and documents that adhere to project specifications and regulatory requirements.

Your Key Accountabilities

• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to understand design requirements and objectives.
• Create detailed drawings, plans, and schematics for overhead systems and associated infrastructure using CAD software.
• Assist in the preparation of construction documents, including bill of materials, material specifications, and installation instructions.
• Compose technical scopes and reports.
• Review and revise drawings based on feedback from engineers, ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes.
• Maintain organized documentation and drawing files, adhering to company standards and best practices.
• Support project teams in meeting deadlines and deliverables, communicating progress and potential issues as needed.
• Conduct field surveys to assess existing conditions and gather relevant data, including terrain, right-of-way, existing infrastructure, environmental constraints, and other relevant factors that may impact overhead systems design.
• Prepare condition assessment reports.
• Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the engineering team, promoting best practices and adherence to industry standards.
• Maintain component lists and databases with datasheets and pricing.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering Technician or Technology, or a related field is preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation software.
• Familiarity with drafting standards and practices.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings.
• Strong foundation in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Quantity takeoff and estimating skills.
• Proficient in capturing meeting minutes and notes effectively
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Knowledge of overhead power systems or related infrastructure is considered an asset but not mandatory.
• Knowledge of ArcGIS or equivalent considered an asset.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design practices.
• Willingness to travel as required and attend meetings and field visits to client sites.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and meet required deadlines.
• Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle.

Term: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)
